You will need to schedule two appointments with us. The first appointment is for a preliminary discussion, and the second appointment is for the actual biopsy.
First Appointment
During your first visit, you will become familiar with our facility, and we will have a preliminary discussion. We will review your medical records, including any available MRI images, and assess the need for the biopsy. If necessary, a rectal swab will be taken to prescribe targeted antibiotic prophylaxis prior to the biopsy.
If all the required records are available, we will discuss the informed consent process to address any questions you may have.
Second Appointment (Biopsy Appointment)
During your second appointment, after taking the prescribed antibiotic prophylaxis, the biopsy will be performed transrectally under local anesthesia. We recommend staying for a short while afterwards to ensure that you do not experience any urination difficulties or immediate post-biopsy issues.
Aftercare
We strongly recommend arranging for a trusted person to accompany you and drive you home after the procedure. It is not advisable to drive or use public transportation alone.
The histological report, detailing the findings from the biopsy, will be sent to you and your physician within 10-14 days via mail. Please schedule an appointment with your urologist to discuss the results. If you do not have a urologist, you may also schedule an appointment with us for a discussion of the findings.
Following the biopsy, it is recommended to have two weeks of rest and avoid activities that apply heat, cold, or pressure to your lower abdomen or perineal region. This includes avoiding saunas, heated seats, heavy lifting, and strenuous sports activities, among others.
